Please note that there is a fee to apply. As a small nonprofit organization, the application fees we collect greatly help to offset the cost of running our open calls, including paying our external reviewers. External reviewers include filmmakers as well as industry peers, and we aim to compensate fairly for their time as reviewers.
- Early-bird fee of $20 if submitting by January 7, 2026 at 11:59pm EST.
- Regular deadline fee of $35 if submitting by February 4, 2026 at 11:59pm EST.
Note for repeat applicants: You can reapply with a project up to 3 times. If this is your third time submitting to the R&D grant with the same project, this is the final time it will be considered. Applications submitted more than three times will be disqualified.

If you have a question about the application, contact research-development@chickeneggfilms.org. Please allow a week prior to the application deadline for us to respond to your issue; inquiries received less than a week before the deadline might not be answered.
We will contact you with any questions or requests for updates to your application; please do not contact us or send unsolicited updates. We reserve the right to contact you if we think your application should be considered for another stage than the one applied to based on our definitions/core activities for the research and development stages. Applicants will be notified by mid-July 2026.
Accessibility Assistance for Applicants with Disabilities
You can contact us if you require technical assistance to navigate the application platform due to a disability.
We kindly ask that you make your request for assistance as soon as possible, and no later than one week before the deadline to allow adequate time for staff to provide support.
Fiscal Sponsor
You do not need a fiscal sponsor in order to apply. However, if you are accepted, you must have a US fiscal sponsor, or be a 501(c)(3), in order to receive the funds.
If granted, we can help advise on this. We require prompt response upon communication of results. There is a 12-week period following notification in which grantees must secure a fiscal sponsor, and the grant must be disbursed within 2026.
